Edelweiss Flower Pendant
Edelweiss, Leontopodium nivale, the "Alpine Flower", a scarce, short-lived flower found in remote mountain areas and has been used as a symbol for alpinism, for rugged beauty and purity associated with the Alps and Carpathians, and as a national symbol, especially of Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Germany, Switzerland and as a symbol of many European groups. According to folk tradition, giving this flower to a loved one is a promise of dedication.
This pendant is hand cut in sterling silver, is about 25mm wide (slightly larger than the size of a U.S. quarter), is then hand engraved. The center pieces are hand cut from brass, welded to the center, outlined with the surrounding area textured, then the recesses slightly darkened to bring out the details. Then, it goes through several stages of polishing. For added brilliance, the center is then given a 24k yellow gold plating. (The gold is more golden than the photos show as my camera either makes silver turn gold or gold become pale as in most of these photos.)
Chains as seen (sterling silver, 2mm rolo) are available for an additional $20.
Feel free to message me using the contact form on the home page or email me at artist@norwoodsofnashville.com .
Solid gold versions available also upon request. As gold prices fluctuate please state desired karat and we will give a price quote.
As each is hand made upon request, allow up to 3 weeks for manufacturing and mailing.
